Zero Waste and Economic Recovery - GAIA
In comparing the multiple levels of the waste hierarchy, this GAIA report concludes that reducing waste is the best option environmentally and economically.
Zero-waste approaches provide significantly more jobs than both incinerating and landfilling waste. Waste reduction and material recovery aim to create a circular economy which is more economically sustainable and provides return into the economy. The report also uses models to explain how recycling, remanufacturing, and composting can create thousands of jobs in certain cities. GAIA concludes that the number of jobs clearly reflects the waste hierarchy, so we can optimize the economy by taking a zero-waste approach.
