In Europe, a Backlash Is Growing Over Incinerating Garbage

Citizens in Europe are concerned over the large carbon emissions caused by incinerators in addition to its reduction in recycling practices.

Waste-to-energy practices in Europe consume approximately a quarter of all waste produced locally, but these processing facilities could ruin their chances of reaching carbon emissions goals and recycling goals. There are also increasing concerns over the poor health conditions that incinerators cause by polluting toxins into the air.

More recent research is making policymakers reconsider building and contracting more incinerators in throughout European cities.
